Looking back on 30 years of Metro Times

9 years ago this week in Metro Times: Curt Guyette ventured to the North American International Auto show to see a myriad of "hybrid" vehicles that were going to represent a bridge to a cleaner future. "For years those who hoped for greener automotive future were perpetually waiting for tomorrow. Not anymore." As for getting them on the road ... What was happening: Jerry Lee Lewis & Chuck Berry at the Fox Theatre.

12 years ago this week in Metro Times: Jane Slaughter surveys the 25 years since Roe. vs. Wade and the impact of the tumultuous legal brawls over abortion. Northland family planning administrator Renee Chelian helps get past the hard-fought debate to focus on patients and the struggles they endure as they make their decisions. What was happening: Common and the Ex-Ecutioners at St. Andrew's.

22 years ago this week in Metro Times... Greg Kaza covers how a judge ruled in opposition to a joint operating agreement between the Detroit News and the Free Press, saying that the Free Press was far from failing despite losing nearly $75 million in the previous seven years. Kaza offers this potential headline for the Freep: "Goodbye, Detroit?" How times change. What was happening: Blue Oyster Cult (more cowbell!) at Harpo's.
