A DETROIT MUSIC EXPLOSION ...
250 Performances — 20 Venues — 4 Nights!!
Molson presents the 10th annual METRO TIMES BLOWOUT, America’s largest local music fest.
Blowout has always been about celebrating the old faves as much as unearthing cutting-edge new ones, and the 2007 event ain’t no exception. Get this: 250 Detroit area bands performing at more than 20 venues, crisscrossing the quirky environs of Hamtramck — Detroit’s multi-culti town within a city — to create a frothy four-night stand of ear-bending music and liver-taxing mayhem. Again, that’s 250 bands in 20 venues in one postage-stamp sized town.
Things grind into gear Wednesday, March 7 with the BLOWOUT LAUNCH PARTY at the historic Majestic Theatre Center in downtown Detroit. Performing live: ADULT., The Hard Lessons, The Muggs, Great Lakes Myth Society, The Silent Years and The Satin Peaches. With top-shelf talent, a grab bag of musical genres, and the Dorkwave DJs transforming the Garden Bowl into a see-and-be-seen dance experience, the Blowout Launch Party is event nightlife.
On March 8, 9 and 10, the action moves to Hamtramck, the storied Detroit enclave that plays host to Blowout each year. It’s a bombardment of bands and music, obviously. But it’s also the excitement of 8,000 rabid fans bustling from venue to venue, and generally indulging in the old world character — and unforgettable characters — that are Hamtramck’s singular charms.
The BLOWOUT legacy is rich in tradition; past performers include: The White Stripes, Eminem, The Von Bondies, The Sights, Blanche, Saturday Looks Good To Me, Obie Trice, The Dirtbombs, Detroit Grand Pubahs, Howling Diablos, Paradime, Ghostly International DJs, The Hentchmen and other marquee names.
