Heat-seeking humans — The second annual Heat the Streets and Walk for Warmth will be held Saturday, Feb. 25, in downtown Detroit. The event will raise money to help keep the heat on for hundreds of low-income families that have been hit hard by rising energy costs. Sponsored by the Detroit Department of Human Services, the goal is to raise $300,000. Starting time is 8:30 a.m. Contact Stephen Moran at 313-887-1173 or go online to heatthestreets.org.

The art of peace — Art and politics will merge on Sunday, Feb. 19, when painter Joel Pelletier and author Russ Bellant, an expert on the political influence the religious right, talk at the Birmingham Unitarian Church, 38651 Woodward Ave., Birmingham. The 12:30 p.m. lecture, sponsored by the Michigan Coalition for Human Rights, kicks off an exhibition of Pelletier’s painting, "American Fundamentalists: Christ’s Entry into Washington in 2008." It will be on exhibit through March 2, when Bellant presents a second lecture in the same location at 7 p.m. Call 313-579-9071.
